Our Community

Our Story

Begins with Jacqueline’s shocking introduction to her neighbors’ plight. “During the pandemic lockdown, I learned of the significant lack of food access among  Chinatown seniors. A volunteer (now our board Treasurer) told me about the shocking hunger he witnessed and the overwhelming need at a food drive. It broke my heart. Unable to look away, I resolved to improve access somehow. At the same time, many of our restaurants were suffering mightily, not only from lack of business but also, from racist attacks, break-ins, and robberies. My advocate’s heart was ignited. I remembered the Chinese proverb:

Talk does not cook the rice.

During my Boston Chinatown Tours, I’ve had guests press money into my hand, saying “we want to help, we trust you, take this” even before this nonprofit became a reality! I’m grateful to be a bridge to Chinatown for so many. To share this rich culture, the immigrants’   resourcefulness and the community’s resilience is truly a gift. “

Make no mistake Chinatown is being tested now as never before, but, together we can make a difference.

FAN Chinatown Today

I created this nonprofit organization to amplify the existing efforts of Chinatown’s community organizations and to innovate where we find the opportunity to expand the capacity and reach of these efforts. We will improve food access, especially for seniors, increase restaurant stabilization, and expand public art.

Public art nurtures communities just as food nourishes bodies. It documents history, inspires action, and builds connections across linguistic and cultural divides. We are Friends and Neighbors, we are Feeding and Nurturing. We have exciting inaugural projects to announce soon!
